Jungle of Sound

Ääniviidakko (Jungle of Sound) is a generative and synthetic rainforest/jungle soundscape installation. It was created for the chill out space of Manaus techno party, held in Helsinki. It was not possible to sonically separate the chill out space very well from the main stage, and it would have been futile to have a DJ there.

The totality consists of eight separate layers, which are in constant tranformation and rhythmically independend of each other. No natural sounds have been used as the source. A few irrelevant rhythmical and melodious elements are driven through a multitude of effects, which create a jungle-like soundscape, which never repeats itself.

The cycles are quite long, and the soundscape goes through impressions of night and day, relaxation and activity. On top of that stochastic midi generators drive a few software synthesizers, which simulate wind and water-like noises.

A collage of real jungle and rainforest sounds is used as a secondary source to liven up the synthetic main composition. These are mainly birds, which at times rise up to be heard.

Signal sounds for a file-sharing tool

A set of sounds to be used in a file sharing tool. Water-like and cool as requested. The source was an upright piano improvisation, from which single notes were extracted and heavily processed as part of the overall sound design.

Movie tune-in music

An ambient soundscape created for the opening evening of an independent movie theater. Soundscape tuned the audience in to the atmosphere of the movie in question – Nuovomondo. Kino Tapiola wished the soundscape to rise subliminally from the ambient noise of the theater surroundings. Four minutes of ambient noise have been cut from the beginning.

The track uses samples from following Freesound contributors: c97059890, Corsica S, Fonogeno, Greysound, Jasinski and Schalkalwis

Music and effects for a tribal fight sequence

This work was a part of my thesis project, in which I had volunteered to be the sound designer for Dragonbane; a Live-Action Role Play of huge proportions realized in the woods of rural Sweden. The concept and synopsis of the film was partially written by me.

Indiana Jones Sound Design Remake

A school project for a sound design course. The subject was the idol cave sequence from Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

This was a group assignment where we wrote the sound design and created the foley and a few other sounds together. I compiled, mixed and mastered the soundtrack, and created the music as well as the executive sound designer.
