Original Music and Sound Design for an Experimental Short Film

The visuals of the NAPOLI film were translated into sound, forming the foundation for both the musical composition and sound design. A poem recited by lead actor Pasquale se Fabbio was converted into musical notation and used as the basis for the main melody.

Seppo Renvall is a pioneer in Finnish experimental film. He works mainly with film and video, but hid artistic output also includes photography, installations and happenings. His films are characterised by an abstract imagery in black and white and a non-narrative structure that often focuses on the apparently commonplace and everyday.

I consider myself fortunate to have collaborated with him on the film, which premiered on May 11, 2017.

Browser-Based Gamified Audiovisual Artwork

Inter_active

Inter_active is a browser-based gamified installation by Juha van Ingen, inspired by the ancient game Moksha Patam (also known as Snakes and Ladders).

The piece features two parallel image paths—each a sequence of animated GIFs—that players navigate using keyboard inputs. Progression is linear, but interaction introduces variation.

A layered audio component accompanies the visuals, created by selected sound artists. The sound loops operate independently of the animations. Players can toggle individual audio tracks on or off, with a maximum of two playing simultaneously. The soundtrack also progresses in sequence, adding a temporal element to the audiovisual journey.

The goal is to view all animations and reach the end of the paths. Along the way, users generate their own unique combinations of imagery and sound, effectively becoming co-creators of the experience.

The piece is built using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript (jQuery).

Composed original soundtrack music for a documentary film.

Musical contributions for the Finnish Zeitgeist-inspired documentary film Ajan henki. Not all tracks on this reel were included in the final soundtrack. In addition to original compositions created specifically for the film, SARANA live sets were used for selected scenes.

I also produced the Dolby Digital 3.1 mix for the final soundtrack and handled the post-processing of the audio.

I worked as the sound designer for Anni, a Finnish indie feature film directed by Jussi Einola and produced by Joonas Einola. My responsibilities included on-site recording, Foley effects, and mixing. In addition to mixing the film’s soundtrack, I mixed and mastered the music and composed several original pieces using material from composer Simo Salo. Anni also incorporates samples from Freesound.org contributors, listed below.
